關於產婦潔淨的條例，聖經上並沒有解釋為何生產女孩較生產男孩需要多一倍的隔離天數。但創世紀 1:28記載： 神就賜福給他們，又對他們說：「要生養眾多，遍滿地面，治理這地，也要管理海裡的魚、空中的鳥，和地上各樣行動的活物。」所以在婚姻裡夫妻因性生活的關係而生孩子，這生孩子不是罪。這裡利未12：6-8節談到需用贖罪祭來為人贖罪, 其實是指禮儀上的「不潔」。　「不潔」的理由往往與犯罪毫無關係。

「滿了潔淨的日子，無論是為男孩是為女孩，他要把一歲的羊羔為燔祭，一隻雛鴿或是一隻斑鳩為贖罪祭，帶到會幕門口交給祭司（利未12：7）。這是為了要宣告那生了孩子的母親(經過41 天潔淨的期滿了後)在禮儀上被宣告是「清潔」的。例證：耶穌的雙親很窮，因此按摩西律法滿了潔淨的日子，他的母親馬利亞帶著孩子上耶路撒冷去，要把他獻與主。（路加 2:22～24）。提摩太前書 2:15也說： 「然而，女人若常存信心、愛心，又聖潔自守，就必在生產上得救」。 可知這些婦女在生下孩子後，來到會堂上帝前獻祭，她們深信因上帝的良善，信實，和蒙神的憐憫，她們才可順利生產。她們特地來向上帝感恩，表達她願意憑著信心，每天除去「不潔」的事物，過有節制，聖潔的生活來討上帝的喜悅。她們也認為討上帝的喜悅更勝於獻上雛鴿或雛鴿等祭物。

That women were considered unclean after conceiving doesn't mean that the Lord discourages giving birth. Instead, He says, "…Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it" (Ge 1:28).

Besides, "…women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety" (1Ti 2:15). Thus, the guidelines for cleaning the women who had conceived were to facilitate purification and saving rather than discrimination or segregation.

But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean two weeks.
And if she cannot afford a lamb, then she shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering.

A woman will be saved through having children, if she perseveres in faith and love and holiness, with modesty.

"You must keep holy, because I am holy."

This rule tells that we must be careful to obey some details in our eating.

We are sinned but by Christ's physical body through death to present us holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation, He has reconciled us. Therefore, we should not make ourselves unclean. Just because this is not easy, the Lord would like Moses to teach the Israelites in detail. We ought to keep thinking about whether there would be peace in our heart before we act.
