Joab and his brother Abishai murdered Abner because he had killed their brother Asahel in the battle at Gibeon. This act was against God's law. What He teaches us is as follows:

Hatred makes it easy for people to return evil for evil. An eye for an eye is not the best policy. May God lead me to see the dark side of mind and to forgive those who have ever hurt my feelings.
