"He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church" (1Co 14:4). The two gifts achieve different ends, but what counts is whether one applies his/her gift with the spirit and the mind. Only when the two work simultaneously do both believers and unbelievers in the church benefit to the greatest extent.
