Dear all,
I believed that among the four different sects of the Judaism world in Jesus' time, Pharisaism was the sect most close to Jesus. The other three sects were: Saducees, Essenes, and Zealots.
So Pharisees were the most religious, engaging, and compassionate group. We might say that Jesus loved the Pharisees the most, thus he critiqued them the most. 愛之深責之切也
Pharisees might still have some shortcomings, such as self-righteousness [lack of healthy self-criticism](Lu 18:11); Seeking public fame (Lu 11:43); Profit-loving (Lu 16:14); Behavior Motivation inconsistency (Lu 11:39); Ritual ethical incongruency (Mt 23:23)etc.
In our paragraph, Jesus was criticizing the Pharisees against their teaching without practicing their own teachings.
