Jehoiakim burned Jeremiah's scroll so God brought on him and his people living in Jerusalem disasters. People in Judah had been taking God's word lightly. However, though the scrolled was burned down, the truth remained.

Today there are still a lot of people disregarding Bible's value and considered it unworthy to be believed. Yet, although people can turn a deaf ear to God's word, His word is eternal and stands firm in the heavens (Ps 119:89).
