Jacob gave more blessings to E'phraim than to Manas'seh, the first-born. He said E'phraim shall be greater than Manas'seh though Manas'seh shall be great, too. The Lord blesses a person based not on his/her birth order but on the virtue one possesses. Jacob followed suit blessing Joseph's two sons this way.
