All of the Levitical tribe was chosen for work in the ministry. The only difference was that the High priest, Aaron, and his sons, the priests, were the only ones of the tribe to handle the holy things. Even they could not touch them unless it was for the purpose of carrying out God's wishes pertaining to them.

For a Levite, who was not a priest or the high priest to touch the holy things, would lead to death. This could be seen from the degree of loyalty of a servant. Whoever serves the Lord has to take his/her job seriously and to follow the regulation.
