Jacob felt guilty about his brother Esau so he said, "I may appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterwards I shall see his face; perhaps he will accept me"(Ge 32:20). This shows that Jacob regretted what he had done to Esau, and he tried to compensate for his wrongdoings.

Without sufficient confidence, Jacob heavily relied on the Lord for strength (32:10-12). The Lord did do him good, revealing steadfast love and faithfulness. Ultimately, Jacob's life was preserved though he limped.
